The Burke Baker Planetarium, Wortham Giant Screen Theatre, Cockrell Butterfly Center, and over a dozen permanent exhibit areas examining astronomy, space, science, Native Americans, paleontology, energy, chemistry, gems and minerals, seashells, Texas wildlife, and more can be found at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Furthermore, the museum hosts a number of traveling exhibitions on a variety of topics.
The Museum also operates two satellite facilities: The George Observatory in Fort Bend County, which houses one of the largest telescopes in the country and is open to the public, and The Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land, which features exhibits on dinosaurs, mineralogy, exotic live insects, and other topics.
