The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, situated on the western border of Memorial Park (4 miles from Downtown Houston), provides an opportunity to get away from the rush of daily life and explore nature.
This 155-acre nonprofit urban nature sanctuary teaches Houstonians and guests of all ages about the natural world. It is essential for preserving local wildlife and flora in the city’s core, where development poses a threat to their survival. The five miles of trails are open to visitors without charge. The Discovery Room, which features interactive displays and activities, and the Nature Shop, which is housed in the Nature Center building, cater to nature lovers of all ages. The Arboretum has recently added new amenities, such as more parking spaces, new trails, updated boardwalks, six educational Field Stations alongside the trails, a brand-new Administration Building and Conservation Center, more prairie and savanna landscapes, two new ponds, and a completely renovated Nature Center. In 2020, a brand-new, cutting-edge Nature Playscape will also be constructed and open to tourists.
The Arboretum provides educational opportunities for people of all ages, as well as field trips, exclusive tours, volunteer opportunities, facility rentals, and much more.
